Our approach at Labour of Love is to provide care and companionship for Women who are committed to experiencing the birth of their Babies naturally without the use of drugs and unnecessary invasive procedures, want to breastfeed and care for their Babies themselves and seek to do so with an experienced, knowledgeable guide to counsel them.
The Doulas at Labour Of Love offer a "back to basics" approach, steeped in evidence-based care. We each are Mothers ourselves as well as professional caregivers. We have many years of real time experience trouble shooting the various everyday circumstances that manifest as a Parent.
In recent years, the work of the Doula has gradually shifted to include serving women who've decided in advance to utilize drugs in labor - even before their babies are born. However, the reemergence of the female support person here in the west was born out of women wanting the exact opposite: no drugs, no unnecessary interventions, coupled with support and guidance to carry, birth, breast-feed and take care of their babies themselves, according to their own unique emergent maternal instinct.
Equally important is that, in the event that interventions are required, a birthing woman have knowledgeable support, counsel and advocacy to discern appropriate action.
